Dr. Charles Glueck and his colleagues at the Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati found that children in the 75th percentile for BMI and blood pressure had only a 2 percent chance of developing type II diabetes as adults.
On the other hand, children with risk factors "could be targeted for primary prevention of type II diabetes through diet , exercise and possibly insulin sensitizing drug intervention, with special focus on overweight children with a positive family history of diabetes mellitus," Dr. Glueck wrote in his report.
