According to the Lincoln Star Journal, the state of Nebraska currently holds the unfortunate ranking of second in the nation (trailing only Florid) for childhood deaths related to maltreatment or neglect.
Nebraska child advocate agencies revealed that the state also ranked in the top three for the rate of deaths of children from child abuse or neglect in 2007 and 2008
Officials from the National Coalition to End Child Abuse Deaths told the Start source that they were exploring ways to prevent the improper treatment of young people by developing a government strategy geared toward strengthening families.
Under this proposal, they plan to increase federal spending by an additional $3 to $5 billion to protect children who are at risk of harm. Furthermore, they aim to conduct a public education campaign to encourage reporting of child abuse and neglect.
