Teenagers in Indiana who took driver's education courses in school had five times the number of crashes as those who do not.
Sarah Meyer of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, reporting to the state legislature, said that those who take drivers education get their permits at younger ages and have their permits at least six months longer than those who do not. Therefore, they are driving more and have more opportunity to get into accidents.
Nevertheless, the Indiana legislature is considering overhauling the drivers' education system, because, as one law-maker said, "obviously what we have is not working."
