According to a Sept. 7 article in the British Columbia newspaper The Chilliwack Progress, a new program is designed to help parents prepare for the challenges of the teen years:
Parenting Without Power Struggles is a 10-week program for parents of preteens and young teens, between the ages of 10 and 14, designed to help support parents in their children's upbringing.Enrollment is $24 and includes a parent workbook. The first class is September 23 at Chilliwack Community Services on Mary Street.
The program provides parents with a peer support network, as well as skills to help them shift from being the 100 per cent in-control parent to a parent who gives their child some independence.
