Of particular concern was that only a third of parents talked to their children about the dangers of prescription drugs. About one in five of all substance abusers use prescription or over-the-counter drugs.
Researchers surveyed 1356 parents of children in grades seven to twelve and found a 12% decline in the frequency of parental discussions about drug use compared to a similar survey a year earlier. The Partnership estimates that 32 million American families have children at risk for abusing drugs and alcohol.
