Violence in Dating

It's estimated that one of every three teenagers has experienced violence in a dating relationship. "Dating violence" is described as "the perpetration or threat of an act of violence by one member of an unmarried couple on the other member within the context of dating or courtship." It includes verbal and emotional abuse, as well as physical.

"Dating violence crosses all racial, economic, and social lines. Most victims are young women, who are also at greater risk for serious injury."

The Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence has put together a web page addressing this all-too-common occurrence. It includes warning signs, factors that contribute to dating violence, and ways teens can protect themselves. Learn more online.
