Education Alternatives in Hawaii

In an effort to curb the rising numbers of high school dropouts, Hawaii's Department of Education is offering alternatives to students who struggle in traditional classroom settings. Educators in Hawaii are also looking at redesigning high schools, expanding adult education programs, and offering at-risk students job training programs at community colleges to get dropouts to come back to school and earn their high school diploma. Competency-based diploma classes appeal to dropouts who don't fit in the conventional schooling system. The more programs available to teenagers, the more chances they have to graduate and the more hope they have for the future.
