Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that early next year, the Tupelo, MS, Police Athletic League, will begin helping at-risk teens avoid scrapes with the law. By offering fishing camps, basketball, boxing and mentoring, the city hopes to attract 300 13- to 16- year old teenagers in Tupelo and Lee County.
PAL "will give troubled youths a place to go to develop skills with positive role models," said John S. Oxford. "It will also help to break down barriers" between police officers and juveniles.
